Why attend this training?

This 6 hour workshop provides a hands-on opportunity to review the quality improvement tools available, in particular, the National Quality Improvement Principles, Early Years Quality Improvement Support Programme (EYQISP) and various other management tools.

The day is designed to provide an overview of the tools and ideas for participants to use in their Quality Improvement role and organisation. The materials can be adapted for use by Quality Improvement teams as Local Authorities review and re-design their Continuous Quality Improvement framework for early childhood and childcare services.


Who should attend?

This training is for anyone responsible for Early Years services, including Quality Improvement Managers, Team Leaders, Early Years consultants or advisors, Workforce Development Managers, Children's Centre Managers, Quality Assurance Scheme Managers (including externally commissioned Quality Assurance) and Childcare Sufficiency.


Course aims

  • To enable Local Authorities to better meet their Early Years outcome duty by integrating Quality Improvement tools in line with current statutory requirements.
  • To support Quality Improvement Managers in assessing and linking Quality Improvement tools in order to improve outcomes for all children and narrow the gap fo rthose at risk of disadvantage.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the day participants will have:

  • Reviewed national and local policy
  • Used the NQUIN Quality Principles to identify the key elements of Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Identified and linked quality improvement tools including Early Years Quality Improvement Support Programme, self-evaluation, QA schemes
  • Reflected on and identified personal and organisational learning needs

The course tutors

Gill Haynes OBE is an independent consultant, working in the fields of early years, regeneration and management. She was the Chief Executive of the National Childminding Association for twelve years, working closely with government to help deliver high quality, accessible and affordable childcare and early education. Her background includes over twenty years’ experience in local government, both as an officer and a councillor.

Dwynwen Stepien is the Director of the Early Childhood Unit. She initially worked in research and youth work before going onto secondary school teaching. Returning to research and regeneration work in the 1990’s she moved into early years and childcare. Since then she has headed up early childhood services in West Sussex and most recently in the London Borough of Haringey.

Cancellation

All cancellations must be received in writing. In the event of a cancellation, a full refund will be given for one month's notice, a 50% refund for 1 month to 14 days notice and no refund for less than 14 days notice. Substitutions may be made at any time.

As an NCB member or non-member, you should also register as coming from the statutory or the voluntary sector. To qualify as a voluntary sector organisation, you must be a registered charity. When you book, please have your registered charity number ready. This also applies to waiting list places.
